Larry Vuillemin

A native Akronite, Larry Vuillemin graduated from St. Vincent High School in 1966. He attended Notre Dame University on a football scholarship, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He also attended The University of Akron School of Law, graduating in 1973 as Valedictorian.

A former Senior Trial Attorney with the Summit County Prosecutor‘s Office and Akron City Councilman, Larry is Of Counsel with the law firm of Malarcik, Pierce, Munyer & Will, located in Akron, Ohio. He also served as an Adjunct professor at The University of Akron School of Law, teaching criminal law and procedure, and is a member of Scanlon Inn of Court, and the Akron and Ohio State Bar Associations. Larry has been certified as a Spiritual Director through the Ignation Spirituality Institute at John Carroll University. He has also completed the Myers Briggs Certification Process and training in the Enneagram Inventory.

In 1990, Larry and Fr. Norm Douglas, were the co-founders of Heart to Heart Communications, Inc., a spiritually-centered interfaith organization that brings individuals and organizations together to reflect, discuss and promote ways to strengthen the connection between people’s inner spirit, ethical values and daily work. The organization’s mission is to serve as a community catalyst for personal and spiritual development as a foundation for enriching workplaces.

Larry is a member of the Leadership Akron class of 1999. In 2003, Larry received the Sir Thomas More Award jointly presented by the Akron Bar Association and the Diocese of Cleveland for personal integrity, professional excellence, and community service. In 2005, Larry was honored as an Outstanding Alumnus of The University of Akron Law School. Together with Fr. Norm, he received the 2002 Distinguished Leader Award presented by Leadership Akron, the 2006 “Founding Principles” Award from the Sales & Marketing Executives – Akron Chapter, the 2009 Betty Dalton Community Service Award, the 2014 Community Medal Award presented by the Salvation Army of Summit County, and the 2015 Friend of Young Leaders Award presented by Torchbearers.

Long before “spirituality at work” became a buzz word, Larry and Fr. Norm sensed the importance of enriching lives at work. For the next several years, Larry and Fr. Norm developed unique programs for values-based leadership training. Today, Heart to Heart Communications is a well-known and respected organization that develops and offers work-related programs, community-wide events, retreats and corporate training.

Larry is called upon frequently as a keynote speaker at work-related and civic gatherings. Larry co-authored a book, How in the World Do We Make A Difference? – Getting to the Heart and Soul of Love and Work with Fr. Norm and Stephen Hallam, Ph.D., former dean of The University of Akron School of Business. Larry resides in Akron, Ohio with his wife, Carol. They have four children and four grandchildren.
